Meet Emma – The Heart Behind Colour With Em

Hi, I’m Emma! Creativity has always been at the core of who I am. While school was never easy for me, art was my true passion. Over the years, I’ve explored creativity in many ways—face painting, designing display boards in nurseries and schools, and experimenting with creative makeup on social media.

In 2024, I went through the heartbreaking loss of my dad, my biggest supporter. Grief took a huge toll on my mental health, and I felt like I had lost my spark. During this difficult time, I noticed a growing trend of colouring books on social media. While I initially found detailed adult colouring books overwhelming, I was drawn to bold, simple designs that made creativity feel accessible again.

How Colouring Helped Me Heal

That first page I coloured reignited something in me. It became my creative escape, helping me manage my emotions and experiment with shading and highlighting. Colouring provided a mental break, especially at night when my thoughts were racing. Over time, I noticed my mental health improving, and I felt a renewed sense of purpose.

My dad always encouraged me to "be my own boss", and his words stayed with me. One night at 3 a.m., I had a thought: Why am I colouring other people’s books when I could create my own? The very next day, I started designing my first colouring book, All Things Girly.

The Birth of Colour With Em

It took me a week of non-stop designing to complete my first book. My mum’s support was invaluable—fueling me with coffee, bacon buns, and fresh ideas. With her encouragement, I turned my creative spark into a reality.

But I didn’t want to create just any colouring book. I wanted something modern, high-quality, and accessible. That’s why I made sure to include:

• A binder format for easy use by both left- and right-handed colourists.
• Artist-grade paper to ensure a premium colouring experience.
• Hand-drawn illustrations that feel personal, unique, and full of personality.
